On invitation from the United States Pacific Command (USPACOM), CICRA took part in the ‘Cyber Endeavour’ Program for the fifth consecutive year and trained top military officers from 28 nations on cyber security.
CICRA Group Director/CEO Boshan Dayaratne spoke as a panellist at the five-day ‘Pacific Senior Communicators Meeting’ that represented nearly 150 top military officers from nearly 28 countries.
The two events were held recently in Silicon Valley, US, and are part of the Multinational Communications Interoperability Program (MCIP) of the USPACOM.
“We managed to make the audience realise the importance of cyber security about national defence and disaster recovery. We also received very positive feedback from the audience,” Dayaratne said. He further added: “We are pleased to see that the US Pacific Command is taking a proactive role in cyber defence as part of disaster recovery and communication. Reactive cyber defence is a costlier exercise after the damage had already been done. CICRA encourages all sectors in the public and private sector to play a similar proactive role about cyber defence.”
The ‘Cyber Endeavour’ program is part of the ‘Pacific Endeavour’ annual workshop series, which helps to identify and document communications and information systems interoperability among the participants. The participants to this program are from member nations of MCIP. This program is designed to operationalise the goals of the MCIP and satisfy the intent of the USPACOM Theatre Security Cooperation Program.Established in 2004, Pacific Endeavour is an annual workshop designed to confirm participating nations can communicate with one another in the event of a natural disaster and ensures the success of Humanitarian Assistance/Disaster Relief operations when there is a crisis.
