APIIT hosts Sri Lanka’s first ‘Design SPRINT’ workshop with Lean Disruptor

Asia Pacific Institute of Information Technology (APIIT) in collaboration with Lean Disruptor, a strategic business consulting firm and an executive educationalist, will host a one-day workshop on 17 August on ‘Design SPRINT’, a tested five-phase framework invented by Jake Knapp at Google Ventures, that helps answer critical business questions through rapid prototyping and user testing. 

The workshop targets all levels of decision makers, from technology to product development domain, to be able to steer the company from implementing this framework into practice. The key purpose during the workshop will to be provide a practical framework to develop new business models with better products, and reduce the risk of failure while identifying growth opportunities. The program will also felicitate approaches in bridging the ‘concept’ with a pragmatic framework, to execute and bring that concept to life.  

The Design SPRINT concept was first invented by Jake Knapp at Google Ventures, and is well recognised for his work on the SPRINT process. This is a much sought-after framework and is embraced by conglomerates throughout Europe and the US. Design SPRINT is designed to replace mundane, unproductive defaults and processes with smarter, more respectful and impactful methods of problem-solving, which helps bring out the best contributions within a team. One of the more intriguing and successful case studies is LEGO: a global giant with superior leadership that successfully implemented Design SPRINTs at scale across the organisation. 

Lean Disruptor’s world-class trainers, Prof. Raomal Perera and Rohan Perera, with over a decade of collective experience, have assisted companies, business owners and entrepreneurs in providing the necessary tools/platforms to enable problem solving and test new ideas. 

Prof. Raomal Perera is a veteran of several entrepreneurial ventures and an adjunct professor of entrepreneurship at INSEAD. He recently received the honour of being inducted into the Business Excellence Institute’s Hall of Fame in Dublin, Ireland - a testament to his sustained track record of excellence. An educator whose primary role is to help established businesses develop innovative work, Raomal uses an interesting mix of hands-on experience of building successful companies and the more recent experience of academia/research in helping companies GET, KEEP and GROW their customers, using a number of effective tools and processes.

Rohan Perera is an advocate of Jake Knapp’s SPRINT process and lectures on Lean Start-up, Customer Development, Finance, Business Planning and Business Model Innovation. He is a specialist in teaching finance modules and co-teaching the Entrepreneurship and Customer Development modules for the Godolphin flying start program (the world’s leading thoroughbred program) and Steve Blank’s 12 week Lean Launchpad program in UCD in the Smurfit Business School.
