The ICT Agency of Sri Lanka says that 50 new Nenasalas (wisdom outlets) are scheduled to be set up in the Kegalle, Kurunegala and Puttalam Districts parallel to the 2014 Deyata Kirula national exhibition. Under this program five new Nenasalas in the Kurunegala District were declared open to the public by Telecommunication and Information Technology Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya  recently. Participating in the inauguration of these five Nenasalas, Minister Siyambalapitiya explained that Nenasalas help Sri Lanka become the region’s knowledge hub as they help the country become 75% ICT literate. “Making Sri Lanka South Asia’s knowledge hub is a goal put forward by President Mahinda Rajapaksa for the nation and a 75% ICT literacy greatly helps it,” the Minister emphasised. Joining the inauguration, ICT Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) CEO Reshan Dewapura said that now Nenasala wisdom outlets were not mere rural information centres in Sri Lanka. “Today they are centres closely linked with the people.  They provide many information technology services, bringing global knowledge to the village,” Dewapura pointed out. Currently there are 746 Nenasalas islandwide.
