228 graduates at the BCS Sri Lanka Graduation Ceremony 2013

The 14th Graduation Ceremony of BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT (CIIT), Regional Office Sri Lanka concluded successfully on 13th October, 2013 at Musaeus College Auditorium. Minister of Higher Education S.B. Dissanayake was the chief guest while BCS UK Group Chief Executive Officer David Clarke graced the occasion as guest of honour. Director Higher Education Qualifications and IMIS of BCS UK, Kate Edwin–Scott, BCS Regional Office Sri Lanka Country Manager Niranjala Jayathilake and the BCS Sri Lanka section members were also present at the occasion. The ceremony presented nearly 795 students with Certificate in IT, Diploma in IT, Professional Graduate Diploma (PGD) in IT, and 228 who completed their Professional Graduate Diploma in IT during September 2012 and April 2013 graduated, whilst three World and Sri Lankan Prize Winners were felicitated; Ajantha Jegasingam, Lahiru De Silva, M. Nushri, were awarded the Certificate, Diploma and Professional Graduate Diploma respectively. D.M.D.S. Dunukara was awarded the Project Prize who has achieved highest in the Project Management module, awarded by the Project Management Group UK. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has recognised the Higher Education Qualifications (HEQ) obtained from the BCS The Chartered Institute for IT, as an entry qualification for Master’s Programs including Master’s in Computer Sciences (MSc), Information Technology (MIT) and Business Administration (MBA). During the Chief Executive’s visit, he attended meetings with key officials to discuss and explore the possibilities of BCS’s contribution towards education and professional development in Sri Lanka. Clarke will also be attending as the guest of honour at the National Best Quality Software Awards 2013 organised by BCS Sri Lanka Section with the participation of over 700 senior IT professionals on 17 October at Kingsbury Hotel in Colombo. The BCS is the only Chartered Institute for Information Technology (IT), leading professional and educational society in the field of computer and information systems in the UK. BCS provides a unique service to established practitioners, students as well as those in the early stages of their careers. The society has over 70,000 members around the world and Sri Lanka represents 10% of the total member population. The regional institute has always campaigned for greater recognition and excellence in the IT profession in Sri Lanka, through education, training and development.
