The WHO Country Office of Sri Lanka conducted its annual retreat 3-5 July in Habarana, North-Central Province.
The main objectives of the retreat were to discuss the current program implementation and the proposed 2016-17 biennium plans and to conduct team building activities. An external consulting group, Sri Lanka Business Development Centre (SLBDC) was the facilitator for the retreat.
During the first day of the retreat, the main discussions focused on how the office could meet the implementation targets. The staff members were also oriented as to the plans that will be guiding the country office’s activities to support the Ministry of Health in the next biennium. The second day activities consisted of outdoor activities to discuss and experience group/team dynamics essential for a strong country office. The office team appreciated new acronyms introduced by the facilitators: TTQ – Task, Time, Quality; PLATE – Planning Learning Achieving Timing Efficient and TEAM – Together Everyone Achieves More.
During the conclusion of the retreat’s program, WHO Representative Dr. Jacob Kumaresan gave a note of appreciation for the entire office’s support of the activity and reiterated that the strongest asset of the WHO is its human resources. He expressed optimism that the goals and objectives set by the organisation will be met as the biennium closes with this year because of the strong collaboration of the staff members.
