To mark National Stroke Day this year, The National Stroke Association of Sri Lanka (NSASL) is organising a health walk on Thursday, 27 February 2014 (which is a Public Holiday). The walk will start from the Viharamaha Devi Park (near the Buddha Statue) at 7 a.m. The Minister of Health will be the Chief Guest. Stroke is the third leading cause of death and the leading cause of disability worldwide. It can affect one in six people during their lifetime. In Sri Lanka, about 25,000 people develop stroke annually and this trend is on the increase. Stroke is a treatable and preventable disease. NSASL’s key objective of the walk is to promote awareness on stroke and its prevention. NSASL urges the public to show their solidarity towards this cause by participating in the walk. Please be there by 6:30 a.m. Parking will be available on F.R. Senanayake Mawatha (opposite the Municipal Ground).
