District Governor Lion Dr. Upali Jayawardena has organised a Lions Diabetes Walk with the help of Project Chairperson Lion Dr. Dhammika Gunawardena.
This walk scheduled to start on 2 December at 7 a.m. from Dehiwala/Mount Lavinia Municipal Council and the walk will end up at Ratmalana Kothalawalapura Maha Vidyalaya. Full-day workshop will be held at school premises, which includes a fitness program with Specialist Dr. Asanga Wijeyrathne, nutritional advice by Specialist Dr. Renuka Jayatissa and eye-care by Eye Specialist Dr. Kodikara.
Arrangements have been made to screen 600 persons for diabetes. Lions Clubs International always takes on active interest in welfare of the community.
The main intention of this Lions Diabetes Walk, workshop and screening program is to educate the general public about the silent killer disease ‘diabetes,’ which is the leading cause of non-traumatic amputation, blindness and kidney failure.
