Hemas Hospital Wattala, inspired by its vision of providing affordable healthcare to all Sri Lankans, was able to reach across more than 5,000 Government employees of Gampaha District, through ‘Suwasawi’, the comprehensive health screening package offered at a nominal fee of Rs. 650.
The unique package which was launched in 2011, soon gained acceptance and recognition especially amongst the school teachers of Gampaha District. The comprehensive health screening package covers basic investigations to identify non- communicable diseases such as diabetes, heart problems, and high blood pressure and it also includes a vision check and a complete physical examination.
Currently more than 100 schools and Government institutions in Gampaha District have enjoyed the benefits of this service offered by Hemas Hospital Wattala.
Hemas Hospital Wattala General Manger Dr. Samanthi de Silva said that access to quality healthcare is not a privilege anymore, but a right of every Sri Lankan. “It is a reality, which is the very reason for believing in providing quality healthcare services to people from all walks of lives all over the country at a really affordable cost.
“The idea behind this new concept was to make preventive health screening accessible to the Government sector employees, in the light of rising healthcare costs and growing prevalence of non-communicable diseases.”
Making it more attractive and convenient to the Government sector, the mobile health services teams of Hemas Hospitals and the laboratory network have been able to visit most of the schools and other institutions of Gampaha District, in order to provide this service at their doorstep.
Aligning with the national policy of promoting wellbeing of the nation through preventive healthcare services, Hemas Hospital has already taken steps to encourage preventive health screening by introducing a wide range of affordable, yet comprehensive health screening packages to suit the lifestyles and income patterns of the population and raise awareness levels by carrying out regular health education sessions on public health issues. Hemas Hospitals is the first internationally accredited hospital chain in Sri Lanka and is a subsidiary of Hemas Holdings, one of Sri Lanka’s leading conglomerates with a focus on five key sectors; FMCG, healthcare, transportation, leisure and power generation.
