Ceylinco Healthcare promotes screening for breast cancer

The Ceylinco Healthcare Centre has launched special cancer screening packages at concessionary rates applicable throughout October, the month dedicated universally to promote breast cancer awareness, to encourage and promote screening among Sri Lankan women. A special health screening package with a breast cancer risk assessment as well as breast cancer screening packages for women on either side of 40 will be available at the centre during the month. The special health screening package includes a breast cancer risk assessment with advice on screening for breast cancer, Body Mass Index (BMI), vision check, blood pressure check, tests for fasting blood sugar and total cholesterol, urine full report, a complete physical examination and a consultation with an in-house medical officer. It is priced at just Rs. 990, the centre said. The package for women below 40 years includes a breast scan, breast cancer risk assessment, a complete physical examination and a consultation with an in-house medical officer, while the package for women above 40 years will comprise of the same tests plus a mammogram. The discounted rate for the package offered to women below 40 years is Rs. 2,000. The package for women over 40 years costs Rs. 5,000. Dr. Shyama Fernando, the Senior Medical Officer at the Ceylinco Healthcare Centre said: “We conduct programmes of this nature every year to encourage breast cancer screening because treatment at an early stage increases the chances of an effective cure.” She said breast cancer is one of the commonest cancers among females in Sri Lanka. Appointments for screening at the centre in October can be made over the telephone by calling 2490290. Ceylinco Healthcare Centre is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for the detection and treatment of cancer. Visitors undergo screening or treatment in a comfortable non-hospital atmosphere. The centre also offers free care to cancer patients through a Cancer Support Group, a team of professionally trained caregivers who assist cancer patients on a one-to-one basis. The team at the centre’s Breast Care Unit comprises of female doctors, radiologists, a pathologist, breast surgeons, oncologists, nurses, radiographers and customer service staff.
