Asiri Wellness Center introduces menopause clinic

Adding to its vast portfolio of dedicated procedures and tests for men and women, a menopause clinic was recently added to the Wellness Center at the Asiri Surgical Hospital. The menopause clinic will help women and their doctor discuss the treatment options most suitable, safe and effective to relieve some of the debilitating symptoms of menopause.

Menopause, a condition faced by women between the ages of 40 to 60 is a natural step in the process of aging. Most often women face symptoms like hot flashes, sleep disturbances, night sweats, skin disorders and psychological disturbances such as depressions and anxiety. Physical changes can also occur with menopause and with aging.  “But the changes that happen during this period can be minimized by healthy living and by proper guidance,” said Dr. K. Sivanesan, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at the Asiri Wellness Center. “We will advice and treat through the numerous therapies available to manage menopausal symptoms and help stay healthy during this important phase of a woman’s life.”

Women, going through menopause will face various symptoms during this time. Whilst some of the short term effects could be hot flashes and lack of sleep, long term effects could be linked to estrogen deficiencies which can lead to heart disease or osteoporosis.

Dr. Sivansan has been working in the UK for the past 10 years having completed his postgraduate training in the fields of obstetrics and gynaecology in the UK. He further trained in the field of reproductive medicine (infertility/IVF, adolescent gynaecology, gynaecology endocrinology as well as menopause) in St. Bartholomew’s Hospital in London, UK. Since his return to Sri Lanka, he has been concentrating on fertility/IVF as well as menopause management.
