The Akbar Brothers KAF Foundation recently announced its partnership with Trail 2016 as a as a Platinum Sponsor, at a ceremony held at their head office at Colombo 10.
Trail, Sri Lanka’s largest ever crowd funded charitable initiative, raised $ 2.6 million in 2011 to build the Tellippalai Trail Cancer Hospital. The hospital is the third largest National Hospital in the country serving 4,500 patients across the Northern, North Central and Eastern regions of Sri Lanka. Akbar Brothers is the leading exporter of tea from Sri Lanka and its Foundation established in 2009 is a charitable organisation focusing on housing, healthcare and education in Sri Lanka.
Trail is a 670 km walk from Dondra Head in the South to Point Pedro in the North, over the course of 28 days, with the objective of honouring and helping those fighting cancer. The founders of Trail, Nathan Sivagananathan and Sarinda Unamboowe will walk the whole distance of 670 km this year as well from 6 October to 2 November. Trail 2016 aims to raise $ 5 million to finance the expansion of the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital in Galle. Internationally renowned Akbar Brothers are proud to be a part of this philanthropic initiative to honour all those who are fighting cancer, and to make the vision of Trail a reality once again.Akbar KAF Foundation made a donation $ 100,000 to Trail 2016. The donation will go towards building a cancer unit at the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital, Galle.
