The Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies (BCIS), Colombo is organising a seminar on the theme ‘Global Health Outlook; Challenges and Implications on Sri Lanka’ on Thursday, 28 March at the BCIS Auditorium, BMICH, Colombo.
Ministry of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Secretary Wasantha Perera will be the Chief Guest and inaugurate the seminar. The inaugural session will also feature Guest of Honour UNFPA Representative in Sri Lanka and Country Director of the Maldives Ritsu Nacken speaking on ‘Global Health Governance at Crossroads’. Ministry of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Director of International Health Dr. Alan Ludowyke will present an overview on ‘Health Challenges in a Globalised World’.
The inaugural session will be followed by two panel discussions on ‘Evolution of Health Care: International Challenges’ chaired by Ministry of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Director General of Health Services Dr. Anil Jasinghe and ‘Transforming Global Health Governance and its Implications for Sri Lanka’ chaired by Ministry of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Additional Secretary, Medical Services Dr. Sunil de Alwis.
Prominent local experts on healthcare; Professor Saroj Jayasinghe, Chair Professor of Medicine, Founder Head, Department of Medical Humanities, University of Colombo and Consultant Physician of the National Hospital of Sri Lanka; Dr. Mahesh Rajasuriya, Senior Lecturer in Psychiatry from the Department of Psychiatry of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo; and Professor Vajira Dissanayake, the Head, Chair and Senior Professor of Anatomy, Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo, will be speaking respectively on the titles ‘Global Health Challenges,’ ‘Dynamics of Global Mental Health’ and ‘Health Innovations in a Digital Era ‘during the first panel.
Ministry of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Deputy Director General Public Health II Dr. Susie Perera, Medical Research Institute Department of Nutrition Clinical Nutrition Specialist Dr. Renuka Jayatissa and National Hospital, Colombo Senior Registrar Dr. Anver Hamdani will be speaking respectively on the following titles – ‘Migration and Health,’ ‘Nutrition and Health’ and ‘Politics in Health’.
