Royal Nursing Home Ltd. introduced Sri Lanka’s first ever luxury elders’ home in 2007 and within 14 years, it has become the country’s largest and foremost institute for the protection and care of elders.
Today, this same company is building this luxury nursing home at Pannipitiya on High Level Road with the intention of generating foreign earnings.
Royal Nursing Home Founding Chairman Manuja Hewawasam said that the establishment would be constructed on an acre of land facing High Level Road in Pannipitiya and $ 7.5 million would be invested into the project with the approval of the Board of Investment.
He further clarified that the proposed nursing home would be in line with international elderly healthcare standards. This nursing home will have six storeys at 100,000 sq. ft. along with 200 luxurious air-conditioned rooms, attached bathrooms and balcony, wellness centre, swimming pool, gym, indoor and outdoor garden, library, geriatric consultant medical center, physiotherapy centre, pharmacy, medical equipment outlet, a large lounge, and a small movie theater with an air-conditioned restaurant that serves buffet style meals.
He stated that with the increase in the number of the Sri Lankans moving their children abroad and with the increase in Sri Lanka’s ageing population, the demand for geriatric care is also increasing.
“That is why we are investing in providing nursing facilities and homes for the elderly. Our target audience is to provide accommodation for senior citizens from the upper middle class and foreign senior citizens.”
He added that the institution currently provides housing facilities for 80 senior citizens and 500 male and female nurses are currently caring for senior citizens who reside in their own homes under in-house nursing facilities. “We will also be recruiting 100 new nurses for this new project,” he said.
A room at this nursing home can be obtained for a one-time payment of $ 45,000 (lifetime) or a monthly payment of $ 750 which includes lodging, food and beverages, medical and nursing services and all other facilities.
With over 16 years of business experience in the field of elderly healthcare, Manuja Hewawasam holds a Diploma in Health Care Management from Parkway College, Singapore, a Degree in Business Administration from the University of Kanpur, India and a Diploma from the Faculty of Information Technology, Sri Lanka.
By building a large scale luxury elders’ home such as this, with such a major investment; he hopes to earn foreign remittances to the country as well as to provide cuisine and lodging that is similar to that of a five-star hotel, the best private medical care and the love and respect which will make these senior citizens feel like they are living in their own homes.
Room reservations will be available from the end of March. Call 0718711711 for more information on how to reserve a room for your beloved parents or for yourself to spend in a dignified, safe, healthy, comfortable and pleasurable manner.
