For the 10th consecutive year, the Rotary Club of Colombo West has sponsored 50 cataract operations of the impoverished and elderly. The operations costing over Rs. 500,000 were performed at the Eye Clinic of the HelpAge Hospital in Wellawatta.
The club is committed to prevent blindness due to cataracts in the country. Through its cataract project, it has delivered immediate life-changing eye care to the elderly and made a significant difference in their lives.
In Sri Lanka, there are more than 2,000 Rotarians in over 70 clubs. The Rotary Club of Colombo West, which was formed in 1961, is the second largest club in Sri Lanka and consists of members across a diverse range of industries and professions. It is actively involved in community service projects around the country.
Rotary, which commenced in 1905, is a global network with more than 1.2 million members in over 200 countries. They are passionate about people uniting and taking action to create lasting change in their communities through sustainable projects.
