Orel IT, who was adjudged as the most outstanding exporter of the year at the National Chamber of Exporters (NCE) Awards in 2018, has come up with an innovative and groundbreaking product that will transform the lives of totally and partially blind persons. With the help of this product, persons with visual impairments or persons who are completely blind could read any printed material, signboards and digital text on a computer screen, identify colours and products and even recognise people who are facing them. Known as OrCamMyEye 2 will literally make the blind to see. Spokesperson of Orel IT at a recent interview stated that they are excited about this launch as visually impaired persons would be able to do much more than only reading which they are unable to do right now. “OrCamMyEye 2 is the most advanced wearable assistive technology device for the blind and visually impaired in the world. It increases users’ independence and this device can easily be used by children, adults, and the elderly alike which improves his/her quality of life he stated.
OrCamMyEye 2 is a tiny device, about 22 grams, that uses highly advanced AI, OCR and machine learning technology to instantly read any printed and digital text, recognise faces, identify products, money notes, colours, barcodes and even tell the user the time and date all with intuitive gesture control. It does this by conveying visual information audibly. Speaking about the features of the product the Spokesperson of Orel IT demonstrated that the device could be easily attached to almost any pair of glasses and that it works in real-time, requiring no internet connectivity to function. “It assures full data privacy. OrCamMyEye 2 will not improve a person’s eyesight, but it will improve their quality of life by assisting to do their day to day activities independently,” the Spokesperson of the company added.
Furthermore, persons suffering from dyslexia and reading fatigue could read properly with the use of the product. OrCam enables persons who cannot read English to actually ‘read’ and absorb what is there in a written form as an automated voice does the reading for them.Automatic LED illumination also permits the person wearing the product to read in the dark. The product also comes with a USB charger, automatic software updates, and Bluetooth connectivity. “OrCamMyEye 2 has won numerous awards over the years. It is available in more than 29 countries, in nearly 20 languages and isnow available in Sri Lanka via Wickramarachchi Opticians Island-wide,” the Spokesperson for Orel IT stated.
