Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Viet Nam Prasanna Gamage met with Viet Nam Textile & Apparel Association (VITAS) Chairman Vu Duc Giang on 9 July in Ha Noi to discuss cooperation between Sri Lanka and Viet Nam in the apparel and textile sectors. VITAS is the powerful umbrella organisation of apparel and textiles sector entrepreneurs in Viet Nam.
Gamage and Giang engaged in a comprehensive discussion relating to the apparel and textiles sectors of Sri Lanka and Viet Nam respectively, with special emphasis on the challenges confronting the industry during the COVID-19 pandemic, and potential cooperation in the post-COVID business environment.
Giang highlighted the importance of cooperation between apparel and textile exporting countries in Asia, rather than competition. Gamage, in agreement with Giang, reasoned that, indeed, the present challenges have generated numerous opportunities, particularly in maintaining supply chains and finding new source markets.
Gamage also proposed that VITAS link and cooperate with Joint Apparel Association Forum – Sri Lanka (JAAF – SL), which Giang generously welcomed, stating that such linkages would undoubtedly be beneficial to both countries. Giang further expressed his hope that JAAF – SL would be able to visit VITAS at an opportune date in the future.
The ‘sEmbassy Third Secretary/Commercial Prasadi Boomawalage assisted Ambassador Gamage and VITAS Chairman was assisted by VITAS Actg. Secretary General Hoang Ngoc Anh.
