The London Stock Exchange Group Sri Lanka (LSEG SL) has partnered with the Rotary Club of Colombo Metropolitan for Rotary International District 3220 to drive forward “Don’t Skip a Beat” – a project to help children who suffer from congenital heart diseases and support cases with moderate risk (Fallot Tetralogy).
With the approval of the Government of Sri Lanka, Rotary International will be sending children with moderate risk to India for the surgery (which will ease the burden on Sri Lankan doctors at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital (LRH) saving the lives of critically ill children). These will be carried out as Rotary grant projects where money from donors is matched equally by Rotary Foundation.
Initiated as the ‘Save a Little Heart’ project by the Business Operations Division of LSEG SL, funds were raised through the sale of LSEG branded merchandise to employees which included t-shirts, caps, and lunch bags. Colleagues from both Sri Lanka and London contributed towards this worthy cause by purchasing merchandise amounting to a total value of Rs. 1 million. LSEG SL matched the donation amount one-for-one in order to bring the total donation to Rs. 2 million.
The donation took place at Trading House, LSEG’s latest state-of-the-art facility in Colombo 4. A delegation headed by Colombo Metropolitan Rotary Club President Jehaan Ismail and Past President Dinali Dandeniya, Rotary International District 3220 District Governor S. Karunakaran together with District Secretary Dr. Ramasubbu met with Ajith Dandeniya, Head of Business Operations and staff members from LSEG SL.
LSEG Head of Marketing and Communications – Sri Lanka and Group Technology Shanaka Abeywickrama said: “As an organisation committed to driving global economies, LSEG SL recognises the need to empower, enrich and support local communities. We are happy to have been able to partner Rotary International District 3220 on this initiative which will help young children receive a life-changing surgery, thereby allowing them to reach their full potential.”
Colombo Metropolitan Rotary Club President Jehaan Ismail said: “We are privileged to once again have the support of LSEG SL with the ‘Don’t Skip a Beat’ project. LSEG has been a great supporter of the work done by our club since 2016, when they donated over Rs. 2 million to one of our flagship projects, which was to create a fully equipped Child Friendly Police Station. Over the years the team from LSEG SL has been actively involved in giving of their time at our projects including painting Gamini Vidyalaya and our annual sports meet for over 1,000 differently able children, the Sunshine Games.”
