Melsta Health Ltd. continues to enhance Sri Lanka’s healthcare sector and announces itself as a key player with its 100% acquisition of Browns Healthcare Ltd. from Brown and Company PLC. The hospital’s new name reflects this change and it is now titled Melsta Hospitals Ragama.
The deal which was completed on 19 February establishes a new frontier for healthcare in Sri Lanka and gives Melsta Health significant leverage in the sector.
Melsta Health is a fully-owned subsidiary of Melstacorp PLC, one of the CSE’s leading diversified conglomerates, headed by business magnate Harry Jayawardena. Melsta Hospitals Ragama will expand Melsta Health’s growing network, with its 70-bed multi-specialty general hospital.
The hospital is the leading healthcare institution in and around Ragama, offering the latest in medical diagnostics, advanced medical facilities, and surgical technology, with state-of-the-art options such as CT and MRI scanning.
“Melsta Hospitals Ragama is part of Melsta Health’s broader vision of establishing the very best healthcare facilities and diagnostic centres around the island and overseas. The organisation has set itself ambitious goals for the future and we will undoubtedly keep expanding our operations. As the demand for quality healthcare continues to grow, we are now strategically positioned to offer more options and superior-quality care,” said Melstacorp PLC Chairman Harry Jayawardena.
Melsta Health manages the operations of Joseph Fraser Memorial Hospital and owns Melsta Laboratories. Joseph Fraser is Sri Lanka’s premier medical facility for women and children and Melsta Laboratories is the island’s only standalone laboratory network, with a rapidly-expanding presence including centres in the Western, Central and Southern Provinces.
“The acquisition of Browns Hospitals starts a new chapter for Melsta Health with its latest facility Melsta Hospitals Ragama. It also reinforces our promise to deliver a superior standard of healthcare, with advanced diagnostics and medicine, through a synergistic network of hospitals, laboratories, and support centres,” said Melsta Hospitals Ragama Executive Director and Melsta Health Ltd. Chief Executive Officer Dr. K. Thiyagarajah Iraivan.
At Melstacorp PLC, strategic expansion continues to fuel the organisation’s engine
of growth. The diversified conglomerate is one of the island’s most respected publicly traded corporations, with a commanding presence in key sectors vital to the local economy. Melstacorp PLC currently enjoys a strong position in segments including beverages, telecommunications, leisure, plantations, energy, logistics, healthcare, financial services, and several other areas.
