The Young Entrepreneurs Sri Lanka (YESL) and the Ladies’ College Department of Vocational Studies (DVS) entered into a collaborative agreement last week for bilateral expansion of activities in the field of human resources development.
YESL is a Not for Profit Company by Guarantee, Member/Franchise Holder of Junior Achievement (JA) Worldwide (commenced in 1919 in USA, operates in 125 countries) conducting Practical Business, Economics and Entrepreneur Education Programmes in schools since 1998 and presently in Universities, for young people between the ages of five to 25.
The HRD Division of the (YESL) conducts a wide range of Certificate Programmes, Seminars, and Workshops in Non Technical Management related subjects outside the Entrepreneurship Courses.
The HRD Division has been functional under leading Chambers since 1992 and continues its activities under the YESL. The YESL has strategic alliance arrangements with Professional Organisations for execution of relevant post secondary Tertiary Level Courses. The Ladies’ College DVS which commenced operations in 1981 is one of the pioneer Vocational Training Institutes in the country.
The Institute is conveniently located behind Ladies’ College on 27th Lane, off Inner Flower Road and provides education for all age groups, from career oriented professional qualifications both local and International to skills development (language and computer courses) with professionally qualified staff, making it one of the best educational Institutes available for Vocational Training.
Commenting on the arrangement, President YESL Patrick Amarasinghe said that he was deeply gratified entering into partnership with a prestigious organization such as LCDVS.
“We have been in training and development for over 20 years covering a wide range of non-technical management related courses addressing almost every segment of society. Considering the programmes conducted by the LDVS and YESL I see a useful fusion towards widening the horizons to improve human capital.” Principal of Ladies’ College Nirmali Wickramasinghe observed that it was useful to open new avenues into the conventional education system through programmes such as entrepreneurship, and work force readiness.
She said, “We are open to adding new subjects that would enhance the scope of students entering the world of work,” while Director HRD YESL Nihal Rangala and Director LCDVS Mala Salgado reiterated the sentiments expressed by Amarasinghe and Wickremasinghe.
