A new book has been published by well-known professional Yasas V. Abeywcickrama, titled ‘The Catalyst’. This book is based on a collection of articles written by Abeywickrama relating to entrepreneurship, creativity and innovation, knowledge society, Information and Communications Technology (ICT), Business Process Outsourcing (BPO), careers, customer service, education, personality development skills (soft skills) and other general areas.
The book was launched in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia recently when the first copy of the book was handed over to Dr. Nick Tate. The launching event was organised parallel to the South East Asian Computer Confederation (SEARCC) Executive Committee Meeting held in Kuala Lumpur.
Dr. Tate is the Director of the Australian Government’s Research Data Storage Infrastructure project (RDSI), based at the University of Queensland, where he is also an Adjunct Professor of IT and Electrical Engineering. He is the Immediate Past President of the Australian Computer Society (ACS).
Abeywickrama said about the book: “This book is based on a collection of articles written by myself to newspapers and other publications I made over the last few years. A select few have been chosen for this book together with other articles, and they have been edited to suit the book.” Entrepreneurship and Innovation are important ingredients of a society to fuel the economy. The book addresses it in a way it suits a novice. It covers several areas of Business. It also attempts to increase awareness on the IT/BPO industry. The book aims at developing soft skills and other important personal development skills of people. It also attempts to help young people by enlightening them about building a career.
Abeywickrama is an entrepreneur, trainer and a freelance journalist. In 2011 he was recognised as one of the Ten Outstanding Young Persons (TOYP) in Sri Lanka. Yasas has a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from University of Colombo and a Masters degree in Entrepreneurship and Innovation from Swinburne University in Australia. He has worked in the USA, UK, Sri Lanka and Australia and been trained in the USA and Malaysia. He is currently the CEO of Lanka BPO Academy (www.lankabpoacademy.lk), Secretary of Computer Society of Sri Lanka and Chairman of International Young ICT Group.
