Women’s Chamber observes International Women’s Day

The Women’s Chamber of Industry and Commerce (WCIC) celebrated International Women’s day on 5 March 2014 at the Galadari Hotel with an eminent panel of women entrepreneurs and professionals under the banner of ‘Woman Leaders as Architects of Change’.
The distinguished panel mostly consisted of women who are in the Top 50 most Powerful Women in Sri Lanka. They are Ramya Weerakoon of Ramya Apperals Ltd., Indira Kulathilake of EFI Travels & Tours Ltd. and Universal Labels Ltd., Janaki Kuruppu of the Sri Lanka Tea Board, Samadanie Kiriwandeniya of Sanasa Development Bank, and Indrani Fernando of Phillips Hospital.
There were over 150 guests, 15 of whom were students from prominent universities. These students had an excellent opportunity to interact with several entrepreneurs and professionals who were also in the audience.
German Ambassador Dr. Jürgen Morhard was the Chief Guest and Ambassador of United States of America Michele Sison was the Guest of Honour.
The participants showed keen interest and were spellbound by the talks given by the distinguished panel and expressed their opinion that it was an excellent networking event.
The WCIC intends to network with women’s organisations throughout the country. It also networks with women entrepreneurs in India, Pakistan, Maldives, Bhutan, Nepal and several other countries so that it can find the best practices that can be followed by women entrepreneurs in Sri Lanka and help them to start, grow and strengthen their business.
