Truman State University Interim President Dr. Sue Thomas with Scholarships for USA Director Padmasena Dissanayake
Truman State University was pleased to welcome Scholarships for USA to its campus, as part of a long and successful partnership dedicated to providing Sri Lanka’s top students with an exceptional education. At Truman, students can complement their studies with transformative learning experiences such as undergraduate research, service learning, and internships, which provide real-world training beyond the traditional classroom. Interested students should contact www.scholarshipsforusa.com with questions and resumes.
Consistently ranked among the nation’s best colleges, Truman has been named the No. 1 Public University in the Midwest for the past 19 years by US News and World Report. Consumers Digest (2015) ranked Truman as the #1 Public University in the United States.
A medium-sized college located in the heart of the Midwest, Truman’s beautiful, residential campus in Kirksville, Missouri, attracts the brightest minds by providing an engaged community of learners where students are welcome and supported. Spanning 180 acres of walking paths, floral gardens, and towering trees, Truman’s location provides a stunning learning environment. Truman’s campus is home to sports and exercise facilities, coffee and dining establishments, auditoriums, theatres, an art gallery, an observatory, and an extensive library – all within short walking distance.
Truman focuses on the student and the relationship between the student and professor to bring about the optimal academic experience. Truman’s faculty members are world-class scholars, and with small classes and a 16-to-1 student to faculty ratio, no one is just a name at Truman. Truman faculty encourage their students to pursue those high impact experiences that transform students into great global citizens.
Each year 1,200 students participate in academic research, and students work closely with faculty members to design and implement their own projects, which are often presented at local, state and national conferences upon completion.
Truman students enjoy an expert Career Centre, with the mission of preparing students for further education and professions. The Career Centre coordinates mock interviews, graduate school preparation workshops, resume critiques, employer information sessions, and more. All students also have an Academic Advisor throughout their undergraduate studies. These advisors assist students in selecting classes, planning their academic program and meeting their professional goals. They counsel students through academic challenges, and are a key resource for every successful student.
Truman boasts a high placement rate for graduates, with 90% of those reporting employment or attending a graduate or professional school within six months of graduation.
Rahil Gomes, a senior Design student from Sri Lanka, says, “My classes at Truman have trained me to manage my time well, to multi-task, and to produce better work. I feel Truman has prepared me for everything that could be thrown at me in a career in design.”
Approximately half of Truman students enter the workforce directly after graduation, and the other half attend graduate schools for a Master’s or Ph.D. degree. Students pursuing advanced professional programs attend medical, dental, veterinarian, law, physical therapy/occupational therapy, pharmacy, and veterinary schools. Truman students have been accepted into medical schools at a rate of 70% over the last ten years – 20% higher than the national average.
“I take work and punctuality much more seriously. Truman has helped me to be more responsible as a student and as a designer, and I’m a better person for it. I have gained, learned, and experienced more through my education here than I ever have back home,” says Rahil.
Truman offers generous scholarship awards to many students and is known far and wide for giving excellent value for money invested. All applications are automatically considered for scholarships. Truman offers transfer credits for many A-Level Examinations, as well as a separate $ 2,000 scholarship for students who successfully complete three or more A-Level subjects with a grade of B or higher.
Truman’s combination of rigorous academics, supportive professors, real-world learning experiences, and nearly 240 student organisations create a campus where intellectually curious students can thrive. As Missouri’s only highly selective public liberal arts and sciences university, Truman is best known for offering exceptionally high-quality academic programs and an amazing educational value.
