The MBA association, University of Peradeniya, organised an outward bound training (OBT) program on 3 and 4 June for its recently enrolled members, MBA students of the 2011/12 batch. It was held at the Ratnasiri Wickramanayake Training Centre, Kandy and was offered by the OBT Institute of Sri Lanka in collaboration with the Wildlife TREE Centre, Randenigala.
The OBT was designed to help MBA students gain insights about themselves, so that they are able to better engage in their studies and work situations, and develop leadership qualities.
It was also designed to build cohesion among members through inculcating a team spirit and provide a space for students to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical context.
Team building group games, leadership games, campfire, hiking and biodiversity study were outstanding events of the OBT which enabled group moral and trust development and students were able to learn that how they could be successful in their work via proper planning and thinking out of the box.
Those activities also improved communication skills and information sharing, commitment and synergy, creative thinking and effective team work of them. Unlike normal training, participants could learn by doing, experimenting, sharing their knowledge with others, field guide books, observation and also by outside fun games.
