Sunil Liyanage appointed to main Board of Richard Pieris

Richard Pieris & Co Plc (RPC) has announced the appointment of Sunil Liyanage to its main Board of Directors.

Commenting on this new appointment a RPC spokesman said that the appointment of Liyanage would strengthen the Group at a time where RPC is on a significant expansion drive to celebrate its 80 years of business success.

This is also a great success story of an employee who joined the management as a Quality Controller to the organisation and moved on the corporate ladder to be a main board director of a largely diversified Group.

Liyanage is also a visionary business leader who has been instrumental in launching many innovative products in the polymer category and has the honour of being the first person to commercialise flexible polyurethane foam in the country in the form of mattresses, cushions and sheets.

RPC is one of the largest and most successful diversified business conglomerates in Sri Lanka, with over 42 subsidiaries and in excess of 30,000 employees

Liyanage was educated at Royal College, Colombo and went overseas for tertiary education where he obtained a Diploma in Polymer Technology (Singapore) and the Diploma of the Plastics Institute (LOND.) and the Licentiate of the Institute of Rubber Industry (LOND.).  He has over 35year’s management experience in the field of Rubber & Plastics.

He joined Richard Pieris & Co. PLC in 1974 and currently heads the Local Manufacturing and Distribution Sector as the Managing Director. He is also a Director of Richard Pieris Distributors Ltd. and Richard Pieris Exports Ltd. He is a Past Chairman of The Ceylon National Chamber of Industries [CNCI] and a past President of The Plastics and Rubber Institute of Sri Lanka [PRISL]. He is also a Fellow of Plastics and Rubber Institute [FPRI].

Liyanage also was the District Governor in District 306 A of the Lions Club International in the year 1999/2000 and currently is an active member of Lions Movement. He is a Melvin Jones Fellow [MJF] of Lions Club International.
