The Chartered Institute of Marketing Sri Lanka Region (CIMSLR) announced at the recently-concluded Annual General Meeting that Stuart Chapman has been appointed as the new Honorary President of CIMSLR. He succeeds Dr. Rohan Fernando, who completed his term of three years.
Chapman is the Managing Director of GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals, Sri Lanka. Chapman’s wide experience spans many industries including healthcare, FMCG, insurance, banking, financial services and telecommunications where he has held most positions in the sales and marketing ladder ranging from sales representative to chief executive officer.
Some of his previous appointments include Managing Director/CEO – LOLC, Managing Director – Hemas Healthcare Sector, Marketing Director – Reckitt Benckiser, Marketing Manager Celltel and Senior Brand Manager Unilever.
He is a widely-respected industry leader currently holding positions of President of the Sri Lanka Chamber of the Pharmaceutical Industry, Co-Chair of the Pharmaceutical and Cosmetics Steering Committee of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, Patron of the Pharmaceutical Promoters Association and a Board member of the Lanka Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS.
Chapman is a founder member of The Chartered Institute of Marketing Sri Lanka Region. He holds a MBA from the University of Colombo, a Diploma in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing UK, a Diploma in Life Insurance Sales and Marketing from the Life Underwriters Training Council USA and is a member of the Institute of Certified Management Accountants Australia.
“As a founder member of CIMSLR, it is indeed a pleasure to serve as the Honorary President of the Institute. By taking on this role I hope to personally show my support to CIMSLR and its long-term growth. It is noteworthy to mention that we have a knowledgeable and well-connected Board that is focused on the strategic direction of the Region and I look forward to working closely with its Chairman and Members and wish them all success,” Chapman stated.
“Today CIM graduates are making a significant contribution to our country’s economy through varied positions across the industry. Many of them are business leaders occupying board room positions,” he added.
“Stuart is an excellent choice as the Honorary President of CIMSLR. Like his predecessors he has been fully involved with the region from the inception in 1995 and prior to that as a senior member of the AMCIM. A leading practitioner of marketing, he was a member of the Steering Committee which worked hard for Sri Lanka to receive the status of the first overseas branch of CIM in 1995. He will definitely contribute to the progress of CIMSLR and we are fortunate to have him as the Honorary President,” stated Eardley Perera, Founder Chairman of CIMSLR.
