Standard Chartered Bank, in furtherance of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed with Youth Business Sri Lanka (YBSL), a project of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC), once again shared its expertise on financial literacy with young aspiring entrepreneurs of Jaffna. The program, conducted on 1 June, was the second in the series ‘Generating Business Ideas’, and was attended by 25 men and women all below the age of 25 years.
The group was keen to focus the learning around access to financial institutions to obtain funding for ventures, and on correctly completing bank documentation. Many in the group were already engaged in budding businesses and looking for information and assistance to obtain part funding to further their enterprise.
The very interactive session was conducted once again by Standard Chartered’s Country Head of Audit Sivanandan Marimuthu whose passion for his contribution was evident when he said, “It is so exciting and rewarding to be part of the journey of these young people for financial and entrepreneurial independence. It is such a pleasure to be able to provide information and assistance to a group so intent on growing their own futures.”
The sessions, and the credit scheme managed by YBSL, are a reiteration of the Bank’s commitment to building capacity on basic business skills, financial capabilities and providing access to business networks, in the north and east of the island.
Standard Chartered Bank will continue to share financial knowledge and expertise as well as business counselling, with the Jaffna entrepreneurs with start-ups and existing businesses, to improve livelihoods and provide platforms from which small scale enterprise can enter the mainstream of developmental activities, in keeping with its brand promise, Here for good.
