Nalin Wijetilleke, a veteran professional in business continuity and disaster recovery management, received the Business Continuity Institute (BCI) Asia Award 2011 in Singapore on 12 September 2011.
Based on the nominations received from BC professionals in all Asian and Asia-pacific regions including Middle East countries, they were rigorously assessed for this prestigious award.
The occasion was organised on a grand scale with participants from several South East Asian and Asian countries and the event was followed with fellowship and dinner.
Wijetilleke is an alumnus of St Aloysius College, Galle and the Postgraduate Institute of Management – University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka and holds many professional certifications.
Until recently, he was Head of Business Continuity Management of RAKBANK – a United Arab Emirates-based large bank, where he pioneered the implementation and gaining certificate of compliance of Business Continuity Management standards – BS25999 and was the first organisation to be certified in the Middle East and Africa.
He was the founder Chairman of the BCI UAE forum and President of Information System Audit and Control Association (ISACA) UAE. He is a popular trainer, coach and mentor on IS governance, auditing and controls.
Prior to this, he was a senior executive at Bank of Ceylon and Hatton National Bank.
Wijetilleke has contributed immensely to the progress and development of Sri Lankan professionals in the UAE, for which he also received a recognition award from the then Minister of Higher Education Susil Premajayantha in Dubai. A frequent contributor to various professional journals, Wijetilleke is currently pursuing his doctorate with the University of Oulu, Finland.
