The Sri Lanka Technological Campus (SLTC) has announced its faculty appointments prior to commencement of preparatory courses. The faculty has been selected for their expertise and knowledge in their respective fields and in line with the courses offered by the affiliate colleges.
Prof. K.K.Y.W. Perera, a member of the Academic Syndicate holds a B.Sc. (Engineering) Hons., M.Sc., Ph.D., D.Sc. (Honorary). He was the Founder Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Katubedda Campus, now known as the University of Moratuwa. Prof. Perera was also the Founder Head and Professor, Department of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, University of Moratuwa, Founder Chairman National Engineering Research and Development Centre – NERD – (1974-1977), President, Katubedda Campus of the university of Sri Lanka and Chairman of the Arthur C Clarke Institute for Modern Technologies. He had also served as the Chairman of Sri Lanka Telecom PLC and Chairman of Sri Lanka Electricity Board.
Prof. Rosa, member of the academic staff at the University of Colombo, has over 35 years of academic lecturing and also contributed immensely towards the development of the GCE, Advanced Level Physics curricular and considered by many as one of the best Physics teachers in the country. He served as a visiting lecturer at the University of Kelaniya, Kotalawela Defence Academy, University of Sri Jayewardenapura, part-time lecturer for the M.Sc. courses in Nuclear Science and Material Science conducted by the Department of Nuclear Science, Uni. of Colombo and Post Graduate Institute of University of Peradeniya.
His key research includes work carried out at the University of Pittsburgh and at the University of Indiana using the Tandem Van de Graaff accelerator and cyclotron facilities.
With over 25 years of academic experience, Chandrika Fernando will be teaching Mathematics I and II and is the Academic Coordinator at the SLTC Padukka. Prior to this appointment she was a senior lecturer at the Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology where she developed and taught Mathematics for IT, Engineering in Electrical and Electronics (EM) for BSc in Engineering in Electrical and Electronics, Civil, and Mechanical Engineering degree programmes of SLIIT and affiliate universities. She also served as a lecturer at the Department of Statistics and Computer Science, University of Colombo.
Dr. Beshan Kulapala is a facilitator for industrial visits at Project ‘Vega’ at CodeGen International where he is currently employed in the capacity of a Research Scientist and Program Manager. Dr. Beshan was formerly at the Intel Corporation, Hillsboro, Oregon, where he served as a design engineer and team lead. He was also the Co-Founder of the Validation Core Unit (VCU) – Centre of Expertise, with more than 20 engineering resources to design, develop and validate firmware based integrated debug and survivability capabilities to all Haswell Class and beyond Core Processors.
Dr. Chandana Perera obtained his BSc. Special Degree in Physics with Computer Science from the Faculty of Science and his Ph.D. Physics from the University of Colombo with the collaboration of Uppsala University Sweden. He is a Research Scientist for Marine Wing of Centre for Research and Development, Ministry of Defence, Sri Lanka and he is working in the field of Defence Research for the past ten years. He has worked in international research projects at ABB, SRTI laboratories in Ludvika Sweden and Division for Electricity, Department of Engineering Sciences Uppsala University Sweden. He is a reviewer for SCI Journals and International Scientific conferences. He is specialised in development of Control Systems and HMI (Human Machine Interface) and Embedded Electronic Systems for Defence Industry.
Dr. Shamil Appathurai is a senior telecommunication industry and research professional, with well over a decade’s experience in technology strategy and ICT related product innovation in the UK, Europe and South Asia. Currently he serves as the Senior Manager – Technology Strategy and Transformation at Mobitel. He has previously served as a Technology Analyst at the London Technology Network (LTN), UK, Design and Development Consultant at the British Telecommunications Plc. (BT), UK and was a Research Assistant at University College London, UK. Dr. Appathurai will be teaching Digital Electronics 1 at the SLTC.
The Technological Campus has been set up to fulfil the national need for expanding the provision of higher education in Sri Lanka and will be providing undergraduate and post graduate degree programs including programs of globally reputed and high ranked universities. Enrolment has commenced and students already registered are undergoing preparatory classed in lieu of the beginning of the term in 2016.
