A book titled ‘Policy Issues for Sustained Development of Sri Lanka’ by Prof. Indraratna will be launched as well to mark the occasion.
The introduction to the book will be done by Institute of Policy Studies Executive Director Dr. Saman Kelegama. Minister of National Heritage Dr. Jagath Balasuriya and Dr. Karunasena Kodituwakku, former Vice-Chancellor, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, will also address the ceremony.
This publication of Prof. Indraratna, Emeritus Professor of Economics, University of Colombo, put out after completion of 10 consecutive years of service as the President of the Sri Lanka Economic Association (SLEA), contains in one single volume the revised, updated and edited versions of his 10 presidential addresses delivered at its respective Annual Sessions of 2004-2013.
Appropriately titled ‘Policy Issues for Sustained Development of Sri Lanka,’ these addresses together, bring out a very valuable compendium of the most salient issues, and the critical challenges, that confront the Sri Lankan economy.
Highlighted among them are: human development and poverty alleviation, equity and inclusive development, public and private sector partnership, inflation, productivity and competitiveness, export growth and fiscal consolidation, and debt burden and foreign direct investment. The overall feature of the book is that Professor Indraratna discusses these manifold issues within a policy perspective of sustained economic growth and development rather than a mere economic analysis.
