For the second consecutive year, the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM) will hold the Inventors’ Forum tomorrow at SLIM House Borella, in keeping with its policy of venturing into areas of marketing that is of importance to Sri Lankans.
“Inventors have been recognised by SLIM as a national asset and we want to assist them in their endeavours which would certainly add value to our economy and our nation,” said SLIM President Tilan Wijeyesekera.
“As the national body for marketing, we continue to look at segments of our business fraternity as well as sectors in our economy which needs assistance from us to develop marketing acumen in their industries and endeavours thereby adding value to our country,” he added.
Lauding the SLIM project, Sri Lanka Inventors’ Association President, Deepal Sooriyaarachci said that by extending a helping hand to the inventors, SLIM is fulfilling a national responsibility.
Going back to last year’s Inventors’ Forum, Project Chairman Upul Adikari said that it gave an insight as to how markets can be identified by studying the behavioural patterns and the decision-making process of the buyers. The forum stressed on the importance of packaging and the need to be careful about pricing the products. The value addition factor was also discussed.
Among other aspects taken up for discussion was the significance of patenting of the inventions and the legal implications in obtaining patents.
Another critical area was the importance of training in negotiating skills with prospective buyers.
Guest speakers of the 2013 Inventors’ Forum Dr. Ravi Liyanage will speak on the ‘Secret Story behind the Kingdom of Raigam’ while HashanHaputhanthri will speak on ‘How to be Realistic in Marketing and Branding’. Dr. Malavige will also be a speaker at the event.
