SLIIT hosts Business Management and Information Systems Conference for 8th consecutive year

The SLIIT Faculty of Business Students’ Community recently hosted the Business Management and Information Systems Students Conference at the auditorium of SLIIT’s expansive Malabe campus. The conference, which is in its eighth consecutive year, focused on the theme ‘Striving for innovation and beyond,’ with particular emphasis placed on contemporary issues in the business and information systems field. The aim of the industry-based student conference was to help SLIIT undergraduates to improve their understanding about the markets and industries they will find themselves employed in after successfully completing their degrees. In addition, the conference aimed to create industry awareness about the quality of SLIIT undergraduates, showcasing their skills.  Chief Guest at the event was W.K.H. Wegapitiya, the Chairman of LAUGFS Group, who delivered the keynote speech. The Guest of Honour was Jabir, the CEO of Arpico Finance Company. Mohammed Ishan Jalill, President of Young Voices, Leonard Cheshire Disability, Sri Lanka, also delivered an inspirational speech at the conference. A panel discussion on the contemporary topic ‘How to keep the business alive: Sustainability in innovation inside the organisation’ was held with the participation of leading figures in the industry. Mangala P. Wickramasinghe, Head of Payment – Cards and Electronic Delivery Channels at HNB, Hemantha Jayawardena, COO at MIT, Chammika Weththasinghe – Country Finance Manager at Coca Cola, Sonali Cooray,Product Development Manager at Brandix and Thilina Ranasinghe, General manager(Finance) at Voguetex Ltd. participated in the panel discussion with Nagendrakumar Nagalingam acting as facilitator. A workshop on how IT/information systems solutions can resolve organisational issues, while examining scope for growth for these solutions to be further utilised was also held. Rohantha Rodrigo, CIO of MilleniumIT, Niresh Samaranayake, Head of the HR-IT sector of John Keels Holdings, Nuwan Perera, Senior Manager of Software Development at IFS R&D International Ltd. and Naleen Jayasuriya, the Deputy General Manager of Business Process Re-engineering at Sri Lanka Telecom participated as industry experts, with Dr. Theekshana Suraweera acting as a facilitator. The Inter University Quiz Competition was held at the same time, with five universities participating in a battle of wits. University of Colombo emerged the winner, while ICBT placed second and ACBT came in third.
