The Sri Lanka Institute of Directors (SLID) recently presented to SEC Chairman Dr. Nalaka Godahewa, a copy of the training manual of the Board Leadership Training Program which SLID is scheduled to launch on 27 and 28 February 2014.
This two day program has been endorsed by the Securities and Exchange Commission and has been built up on the material developed by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) Global Corporate Governance Forum, customised to suit the Sri Lankan business environment.
SLID, the leaders in boardroom stewardship have carved for itself the distinction of being the prime forum for the education and guidance of directors of Sri Lankan business. This unique bespoke training is directed at new and practicing directors, aspiring and potential directors of listed companies, private companies and state owned enterprises.
The program will focus on the duties and responsibilities of a director, board composition, contemporary board challenges, board dynamics and director behavioural issues and will be an investment in building up the confidence of directors in the Boardroom. It will improve their effectiveness, enhance performance and in turn improve the performance of the organisation leading to an ability to attract capital at favoured rates.
The training will be conducted by trained trainers and will be supported, where appropriate, by practicing Directors. Additionally, eminent persons such as Dr. Harsha Cabraal and Ranjit Fernando, Reyaz Mihular and Ronnie Peiris will share their knowledge and experiences with the participants in the closing session. The interactive work sessions and the use of an all encompassing case study will provide the participants an opportunity to reflect on the practical applications and reinforce the teachings. A certificate of participation will be issued to all participants who follow the two day training. Further, in addressing a current national need, this training will help to promote good corporate governance practices which will no doubt benefit the company. As stated earlier, and has been proven globally, companies which are well governed and report transparently, will attract capital at favoured rates and provide value to investors.
