An interactive discussion titled ‘Inspiring Women’ has been organised by the Sri Lanka Federation of University Women (SLFUW.) In keeping with the objectives of the SLFUW, two women achievers of contrasting fields will make inspiring addresses to encourage women to use their expertise in order to effect change as they themselves had done in their chosen careers. Sumitra Peiris, Sri Lanka’s pioneer woman film director during her long career in films which spans almost five decades, had discovered and exploited talents and skills of vast numbers of Sri Lankans. Her ability to stimulate and inspire a generation could be seen from the fact that many of those whom she introduced, still dominate the cinema.
Rajini Mendis is a role model for young women entrepreneurs. She who inherited the business of her late father, Ebert Silva – Sri Lanka’s pioneer of tour operations, entered the male bastion and following new developments taking place in the country, diversified the business. She now combines her work with tourism and also involves herself with national tourist development programmes through which she helps tourism and economy.
SLFUW’s stimulating discussion thus, which is an effort to promote thinking beyond set norms and take the road to success, is to be held at the SLFUW Auditorium on Friday, 28 July at 5 p.m.
