SLASSCOM signs MOU with WorkInSriLanka to promote brain gain

Committing to drive Sri Lanka’s brain gain efforts through a collaborative partnership, WorkInSriLanka (workinsrilanka.lk), the dedicated volunteer-based brain gain initiative in Sri Lanka signed their first MOU, with SLASSCOM. SLASSCOM, the chamber for the ICT industry, facilitates trade and business, propagation of education and employment, encouragement of research and innovation within the ICT sector by supporting the creation of a progressive national policy framework. WorkInSriLanka, a comprehensive brain gain effort, presently strives to provide information for highly skilled labour who wish to relocate and work in Sri Lanka. The main aim of WorkInSriLanka is to advocate Sri Lanka as an attractive destination for highly skilled individuals and high calibre. It is expected that through this partnership with SLASSCOM, users of the WorkInSriLanka website will: Have a channel linking middle and top level professionals with the ICT industry and organisations that require these specialised skill sets, obtain comprehensive insight into working conditions and job related information in the ICT sector within Sri Lanka for those contemplating to return to their home land and obtain up to date information on the available job opportunities within the ICT industry. Further this partnership will also see WorkInSriLanka and SLASSCOM working towards the merging of common goals and implementing brain gain initiatives to help attract people with the required specialisation and skills set. Commenting on the recent tie up, SLASSCOM HR/Capacity Forum Director/co-Head and Director/Country Manager Motorola Solutions Lanka Ltd. Anuradha Tennakoon stated that “There are thousands of Lankan professionals holding responsible positions overseas. They have access to cutting edge technologies and a vast network of contacts. We look forward to working with the WorkInSrilanka team to reach out to them and facilitate their contribution to the development of the country.” WorkInSrilanka experienced an overwhelming response from professionals of a wide array of disciplines and experience who are looking for opportunities to relocate in Sri Lanka, owing to the fast growing economy that provides a comfortable living environment. WorkInSriLanka Chairperson Kanchana Ambagahawita commenting on the partnership with SLASSCOM stated: “The signing of an MOU with SLASSCOM goes beyond forming a strong partnership; it reflects that the ICT sector is booming and needs to expand its human resources, its skills and share knowledge to thrive in stiff global and especially regional competition. Through this partnership we intend to better streamline the information process to our website users, who wish to join the ICT industry and link them to the industry.” This tie up is the first of many partnership initiatives that WorkInSriLanka propose to sign up for with various professional industries within the island. Through these partnerships, WorkInSrilanka will continue to drive a unified effort with all industries towards improving Sri Lanka’s human capital and invites industrial bodies and professionals who wish to further help build this initiative and strengthen the talent pool in Sri Lanka across industries.
