The Social Sciences Section of the Sri Lanka Association of the Advancement of Science will conduct a training program on research methods in social sciences and management. This program will focus on the need for planning, appropriate use of techniques and processes of qualitative/quantitative approaches, methodological issues, research design, methods of data collection and analysis, and the process of writing for academic publishing.
It will benefit researchers/ research students from universities/higher educational institutions/research institutes, and other individuals interested in conducting research. It will be conducted in Colombo during September/October 2012 in four modules each focusing on different aspects of research methods.
Modules on conceptualisation and research planning will be conducted by Prof. K. Karunathilake, Professor of Sociology, University of Kelaniya. Prof. Karunathilake has over 25 years of experience in research and teaching.
Resource person for academic writing module will be Prof. W. Indralal de Silva, Senior Professor of Demography (Chair) at the University of Colombo. With over 35 years of experience as a researcher and a teacher, Prof. de Silva is one of the best academic writers in the country.
The module on quantitative analysis will be conducted by Dr. Parakrama Weligamage. He has over 18 years of experience in research and teaching.
