The Tron Legacy was brought alive at the Nations Corporate Quiz organised by Nations Trust Bank (NTB) last Friday at a high tech event held at Cinnamon Grand.
Running for the sixth year, the Nations Corporate Quiz is structured to foster amicable relationships and competition within the corporate sector of Sri Lanka’s business community. The Nations Corporate Quiz also further focused on the need to work and play by incorporating the fun element in the quiz, and the necessity to pay back to the customers of the corporate world.
This year, 40 teams of four participated in this quiz to be titled the winner of the Nations Corporate Quiz and win Rs. 250,000. The competition consisted of five rounds with 10 questions each. Two pot luck questions were asked at the end of each round that gave away two points each.
Focusing on this year’s theme, newly-appointed NTB CEO and Director Renuka Fernando stated: “This is the battle of the gladiators that has been inspired by the movie Tron Legacy.”
She also explained why this movie was the inspiration behind this year’s quiz, stating: “The bank is entering the digital world and we want to offer you digitalised products to make your life simple.”
The quiz master of the night was NTB Head of Audit Arthur Fernandez, who brought a bag of laughs with him, making the night a memorable and a successful one. Spectators enjoyed his wittiness and the fun facet he added to the corporate quiz.
Performers for the night were dressed in body hugging Tron Legacy outfits that certainly made the crowd feel like they were living in the digital world of the famous movie. The only item missing on the list were the fancy vehicles of the digital world, but that did not stop NTB from fulfilling the other aspects from audio visuals to entertainment acts.
This year’s Nations Corporate Quiz focused on five subjects: NTB, Financial Markets, Sports, Entertainment, and Current Affairs and General Knowledge. The battle of the gladiators round one was won by Brandix Lanka Ltd., while round two went to Richard Pieris. Round three was won by three companies – Dialog Axiata, Etisalat Lanka Pvt Ltd. – and John Keells Holdings, while round four was taken over by LOLC, Brandix Lanka Ltd., and Associated Motorways Ltd., (AMW). The final round covered Current Affairs and General Knowledge, which went to Central Finance Company Ltd. and Hayleys Group.
At the end of the five rounds, Central Finance Company Ltd. emerged as the final winner of the Nations Corporate Quiz, winning a quarter of a million rupees, while the runner up Aitken Spence took home Rs. 100,000. NTB also had a Facebook promotion for the quiz, which was won by Express Newspapers.
The first Nations Corporate Quiz in 2006 was won by MAS, while the second was won by Aitken Spence. The third Corporate Quiz was won by Amba Research. After a year of absence, the Nations Corporate Quiz came back in 2010 and it was won by Akbar Brothers. Last year, Hayleys Group emerged as the winner.
