Eminent senior lawyer hailing from Kalutara Siri A. Perera celebrated his golden jubilee at the Kalutara Courts Complex at a ceremony held recently with the participation of many judges and eminent members of the legal fraternity. The ceremony was held under the patronage of Supreme Court Judge Priyasath Dep P.C, and Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) President Geoffrey Alagarathnam.
The felicitation ceremony was organised by the members of the Kalutara Bar Association led by its President Ravi Domingo.
Siri Perera studied at Holy Cross College Kalutara and Kalutara Vidyalaya, entered Sri Lankan Law College in 1961 and in 1966 called to the Bar before Justices T.S. Fernando, P. Sri Skandaraja and M.C. Sansoni.
During his carrier as a lawyer he practiced in the magistrate courts and district courts. Apart from being engaged as a lawyer Perera was actively involved in the affairs of the incorporated Law Society and after the amalgamation of the profession he worked actively in the work of BASL. In 1973 he was appointed as JPUM and worked as a member of the Bar Council for 22 years since 1974. In his work at BASL Perera served as a Zonal Vice President for many occasions and was elected as member of the executive Committee of the BASL on 11 occasions.
In strengthening legal network on regional level Sri Perera’s work also involved founding of the SARCLAW and he was elected and served as Vice President and represented BASL at many foreign forums.
In the field of development of the legal education Perera served at the Council of Legal education for period of three years. At his home town at Kalutara Courts Perera was elected on two occasions as the President of the Bar Association Kalutara.
Apart from his service to the legal fraternity Perera was also involved in serving the society by means of the international Lions Movement. In the year 2009 he was elected as the District Governor of Lions Clubs International District 306 a1. In the religious activities he also serves as the Chief Dayaka of Sri Nivasaramaya Temple Kalutara.
