Royal College Class of ‘72 presents ‘Excellence in Action’

The Royal College Class of ‘72 will again host the popular ‘Excellence in Action’ – a career development and leadership seminar, on 10 February at the Oak Room, Cinnamon Grand Colombo. This inspiring event is being held for the fifth consecutive year and will feature an array of eminent speakers and personalities who have excelled in their respective field of work. 

This year’s seminar will have a mix of successful Sri Lankan personalities which include Justice Shiranee Tilakawardena – former acting Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka; Niranjan Deva Adithya – Member of the European Parliament for South East England, Scientist, Businessman and Non Executive Director of many international companies; Susanthika Jayasinghe – Olympian, Silver Medalist Sydney 2000; Prof. Janaka De Silva MD – Senior Professor and Chair of Medicine University of Kelaniya and Consultant Physician, Colombo North Teaching Hospital; R. Renganathan – Managing Director/CEO Ceylinco Life Insurance Limited and Suresh Shah – Director and Chief Executive Officer of Ceylon Beverage Holdings PLC and Lion Brewery (Ceylon) PLC.

Commenting on the forthcoming event, Past President/Project Coordinator Anil Wickrama stated, “Each year we select speakers who could inspire and motivate future leaders in Sri Lanka. We are happy to be hosting this educative event for the fifth consecutive year. The purpose of this seminar is to provide the participants with valuable career guidance to enable them to achieve new levels of success in their professional lives. The ultimate goal is to ensure that the skills and sense of determination imparted would benefit them, the country and society at large.”

This seminar is beneficial for senior and middle management professionals as well as entrepreneurs. It is also ideal for professionals who are being nurtured as part of a succession plan or who are being groomed to take on roles in enterprise development. Throughout the program, the speakers will strive to cultivate a winning spirit in the participants by encouraging them to always focus on people and team building and to excel in their chosen fields. The team of eminent speakers will motivate the audience and inspire them to face the challenges of the modern world with confidence and by developing a persevering mind-set. 

The proceeds from the event each year are donated to aid the well-being of communities in-need, throughout rural Sri Lanka. This year, it is intended to meet the cost of surgery of 100 needy cataract patients at the Vijaya Kumaratunga Hospital in Seeduwa to restore their eyesight. 

Over the last four years, the proceeds from this event were utilised to build a community centre in Nelliady, Jaffna; provide school equipment to 3,000 school children in Vavuniya district; library books to the Rajakeeya Vidyalaya, Monaragala; computers and audio visual training equipment to the upper school at Palugahawanguwa Maha Vidyalaya Padaviya, Sripura ; build a structure to house the water project of the same school and complete a clean drinking water project at the Palugahawanguwa Junior School Padaviya, Sripura.

The ‘Excellence in Action’ seminar is held annually with the desire of inspiring the participants to reach new and higher levels of success.
