Alumni of The Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIMA) will present CounterPoint 2012 at the Hilton Colombo Residency on 13 February 2012. This year’s theme will be ‘People Before Technology’.
CounterPoint was first introduced in 2008 as a unique program which envisioned the presentation of ideas that challenged the status quo. Speakers shared their insights on the practical aspects of overcoming challenges and improving performance.
It was believed that through this broader dissemination of ideas and experiences, members and other executives would enhance their contribution to society. The program is a part of the PIM’s Continuous Professional Development programmes (CPD) offered to today’s managers. While the stature and significance of this flagship event continues to grow, it also provides participants a chance to create networks and acquaint themselves with likeminded professionals.
Previous speakers at CounterPoint have included, Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya who challenged the conventional wisdom that it was not worth selling to the poor. Dr. Wijayasuriya presented ideas about the evolution of Sri Lanka’s telecommunications industry and identifying need gaps and opportunities that needed to be fulfilled. He theorised that, gaps created by an uncertain environment helps create significant value to the customer and increases an organisation’s wealth.
Presenters such as Sarath Fonseka laid out the strategies employed by the Sri Lankan Army in its decisive victory over the rebels. He used the example set by the military forces in using avant-garde methods to overcome an enemy that had continued to use unconventional tactics to disrupt civilian life.
This year will see Tony Weerasinghe, Head of Millennium Information Technology, and Sumal Perera from the Access Group, share stories on how their respective companies became successful through innovation and technology while providing importance and due value to human capital. The program will be moderated by Sriyan De Silva Wijeratne, Country Manager, Microsoft.
Participation will be strictly on prior registration and seating will be limited. Those interested are kindly requested to contact PIM Alumni Secretariat on 2671844 / 0775847102 or email [email protected] before 11 February 2012 to confirm your reservation.
