President Mahinda Rajapaksa on Tuesday opened the first Vocational Training Centre for Migrant Workers set up by the Bureau of Foreign Employment at Godigamuwa in Tangalle.
The newly built four-storied Vocational Training Centre is equipped with all modern facilities, a spacious auditorium, a language laboratory to improve the language skills of children in the area, and accommodation facilities for 160 trainees at a time.
The President symbolically distributed certificates to 273 nurse trainees who have successfully completed the Bureau of Foreign Employment’s nurses training course required for employment in Italy.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the President said the Government is committed to fulfil the aspirations of the public and therefore, it will not stop the national development drive, under any circumstances. He also noted that the country has been able to maintain a stable economy even amidst the global economic downturn, mainly due to pragmatic economic policies implemented by the Government. He urged the public to join hands together to carry forward the national development program in order to steer the country towards prosperity in the New Year.
