For the third successive year, the POH Scholarship Awards ceremony was held recently.
Higher Education Minister S.B. Dissanayake was the Chief Guest at the ceremony. The deans of the relevant faculties, principals of the schools of ‘POH’ scholars and their parents graced the occasion.
Sponsored by Singaporean donors Mr. and Mrs. Poh, the ‘POH’ scholarship scheme was commenced in 2009.
Poh Benz Swee is the Chairman/CEO of Zagro Singapore Pte Ltd. and graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration (Hons) degree from University of Singapore and had attended the Harvard Business Management Programme at Harvard Business School. His wife runs her own management consultancy company and also graduated from the University of Singapore. This scholarship scheme operating with their personal funds financially supports selected university students.
The selection is mainly based on the merit passes at the Advanced Level examination and extracurricular activities, objectives and vision of the future and their involvement in social work. Students discipline and continuous progress of their studies are the key factors for the continuation of the scholarship.
Five students were selected as ‘POH’ scholarship holders in 2009 and the same numbers of students were lucky to have a scholarship in 2010. This is the third consecutive year of ‘POH’ scholarships.
