Twenty managers of HOLCIM (Lanka) Ltd., who underwent a comprehensive Leadership Development Program (LDP) conducted by the Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM), will receive their awards at a ceremony at the Water’s Edge, on Wednesday, 29 January, 2014. The participants of this program were specialists from different functional units, and the company’s main objective was to make them specialists with a general outlook, with a view to achieving organisational goals.    The program was structured under three key concepts in leadership development, namely: Experiential learning: positioning the individual in the centre of the learning process, going through the four stages of experiential learning, viz., evidence and concrete experience, observation and reflection, conceptualization and testing in new situations through working on projects; Self efficacy: Developing self-efficacy through assimilation of management know-how and application of acquired knowledge. Visioning: Developing the ability to formulate a clear image of the aspired future of their respective functional units, through group presentations. These approaches were fine-tuned and sharpened by getting the participants involved at the end of each session through submission of learning diaries, working on special assignments on topics formulated in consultation with the company, and finally involving the participants to work on industry-related special projects.  The awards ceremony will be coupled with two other activities, namely, (i) the formal commencement of the second Leadership Development Program for another batch of managers, and (ii) inauguration of the company’s Training Academy with a view to launching the on-going training programs to upgrade the skill and competency levels of employees. In fact, the objective of this institute is to raise service-quality towards delighting the customers.
