PIM Director Prof. Uditha Liyanage, in his welcome address, spelt out the basic difference between training and competency-based development. Training, he said, is mainly skill-based, aimed at sharpening competencies of employees to perform their current functions efficiently and effectively. This aspect is extremely important for performance management. But Management development programs (MDPs), on the contrary, are aimed more at preparing employees for increased responsibilities within their organisation. Hence, MDPs are more futuristic, and therefore, focused mainly on career development.
The function was attended by the PIM’s faculty and Hayleys PLC Group HR Division Recruitment/Learning and Development Assistant Manager Rashmi Atukorala.
