Nuwan Wimalana, a senior marketing professional known for his marketing expertise and hands-on style of management has announced his retirement as The Group CEO/Director of Delmege Forsyth by the end of this year.
Nuwan has been at the helm of Delmege Forsyth since 2013. As a diversified Group of Companies, Delmege has retained a strong presence in the Sri Lankan market for generations. In 2016, Brands Lanka nominated Delmege as the 14th Best Conglomerate Brand in Sri Lanka, up from a previous position of 24th in 2015.
Having commenced his career with Nestle Lanka in 1981, Nuwan has held key positions in Sales and Marketing which included a stint with Nestle Malaysia, during which he obtained considerable global exposure. He held the position of Sales Manager – Confectionery and Ready to Drink Products when he left Nestle to join Coca Cola Sri Lanka in 2002.
He joined Coca Cola Sri Lanka as the National Sales Manager and later served Coca Cola Nepal as their Market Execution Manager. NuwanWimalana has extensive experience in working in international markets while being able to optimise local insights with global proficiency.
In 2007, he was appointed CEO at Swadeshi Industrial Works PLC; during his tenure, Swadeshi Industries registered a substantial increase in turnover, growing significantly in capturing major market share from multinationals.
A product of Rahula College, Matara and Ananda College, Colombo, Wimalana holds an EDBA from the Colombo University, MBA from UK and is currently reading for his Doctorate at the University of Kelaniya. Having obtained his executive education from Cambridge UK, NUS Singapore and IIM Bangalore, he has also served on the Executive Committees of the Business Councils of France, Korea, China and Australia/New Zealand under the aegis of The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce.
As an experienced marketer committed to sharing his knowledge and expertise, Nuwan has engaged in several teaching initiatives and is exploring the possibility of full time skill development undertakings; he is also planning to engage in business consultancy and is keen to work with those in new and ground breaking ventures towards greater engagement.
