The new MBA intake of the Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM) commenced their studies recently. 240 MBA aspirants, carefully selected from more than 1,000 applications were present at the inauguration.
Lanka Harness Company Ltd. CEO/MD Rohan Palleswatte, one of the MBAs from PIM was the Chief Guest. In his impactful presentation on the ‘Role of an MBA towards National Prosperity’, Palleswatte highlighted the significant milestones he achieved as an entrepreneur by way of applying MBA knowledge in creating a world class manufacturing organisation.

He started his speech by singing a song on perseverance. Lanka Harness Ltd., a BOI company under his leadership has brought in over $ 25 million of foreign exchange to the country. “We have to concentrate more on quality and differentiation than on mass production, in competing with manufacturing giants like China,” he further observed.
PIM Director Professor Ajantha S. Dharmasiri in his welcome address traced the history of the PIM and the progress made thus far, emphasising the value addition of PIM towards national prosperity. Senior Consultant Dr. Travis Perera spoke of ‘PIM’s MBA: What and How’, explaining what specialties one needs to know about the PIM’s MBA program.
Dr. Mendis spoke of “Dos and Don’ts at PIM”. This presentation highlighted the culture and traditions of the institute and the way things are done. Professor Tilak Fonseka proposed the vote of thanks. PIM IT Centre Head Sisira Athuraliyage apprised the participants on the working of ‘Prajna, The PIM Learning Portal’. KIK Lanka Director Nadie Algama spoke of her experiences of doing MBA at the PIM.
