The Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM) has taken the initiative in organising an interesting project designed to educate students about ‘marketing’ and to stimulate and unleash the hidden talent of GCE Advanced Level students.
The ‘Marketing Roks Challenge,’ as it has been titled, offers the student an opportunity to experience a real-life situation of solving a ‘corporate’ solution to a given issue.
“Being analytical, creative, and smart will give the participants the edge over others and will definitely prepare the younger generation to face the challenges of the corporate world with greater confidence, dedication and integrity,” said SLIM President Thushara Perera.
“The students will be exposed to the most intriguing marketing lessons and will have the opportunity to learn how to be creative enough to develop and manage a business entity at an early age.”
A gaming component has also been included in the programme to make it more exciting.
Explaining that aspect, Project Chairperson Shohan Chandiram said that it is based on a marketing case study given to the A level students in schools.
“They are expected to handle it as any other professional case study where they are expected to carry out a market and industry analysis. At the gaming session, students will be given questions relating to marketing, which will have to be answered within a stipulated time frame,” he said.
An independent panel of judges will be present and the three best schools will be awarded cash prizes of Rs. 100,000 for the winners, Rs. 75,000 for the first runner up and Rs. 50,000 for the second runner up schools.
Schools can register now to participate in the programme.
The Marketing Challenge – Gaming Session will be held on 15 March at Aquinas Hall while the ‘Marketing Roks’ programme will be held on 19 March at Bishop’s College Auditorium. Call Nishara on 0727265417 for details.
