On 4 July, 23 students out of seven thousand applicants from University’s such as Cambridge, McGill, Colombo, Jayawardanapura, Moratuwa, Warwick and many other reputed University’s representing diverse disciplines of study propelled them self’s to an extraordinary summer internship programme at the highest calibre.
The interns on their first day went through a familiarisation programme on the three partnering companies was held at the Dialog Future World Centre. Where senior leadership which includes the likes of MAS Holdings Corporate Finance, Treasury and Strategy GM Kanishka Mannakkara, Deutsche Bank Trade Finance and Cash Management Director Thushy David and Dialog Axiata Chief Corporate Officer Kavan Ratnayake addressed the students.
Borderlands – Sri Lanka; facilitated a teambuilding workshop for the interns at Kitulgala which incorporated activities such as white water rafting and abseiling.
The students are currently undergoing program’s at three of the partnering companies and have been given the opportunity to attend a number of competency building workshops and industry visits to companies such as 3M and SoftLogic.
The students will also be involved in a CSR Project to raise finance for a distinguished charity. The 2011 Interns gathered over Rs.650,000 for Trail Sri Lanka, a charity where proceeds were channelled towards the construction of a paediatric cancer ward at the Jaffna Hospital. They demonstrated exceptional skills to professionally organise a musical extravaganza coined ‘All of the Lights’ to help attain their target. The Interns were also involved in a project with the Environmental Foundation (EFL). Upon completion of the program, each intern will present their learning’s, experiences and suggestions to the senior leadership of MAS Holdings, Deutsche Bank and Dialog Axiata. The previous year’s interns presentations were made to MAS Holdings Chairman Deshamanya Mahesh Amalean, Deutsche Bank Chief Country Officer Rohan Rodrigo and Dialog Axiata Group Chief Executive Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya.
