Does your DNA determine the strength of your leadership skills? Are you a natural born leader destined to lead? These are concepts that have been proposed claiming that leadership is a trait, which comes naturally and dismissing the notion that leadership skills can be taught.
“Discover the Leader Within You” is a one day program organised by the Colombo MBA Alumni Association of the University of Colombo that would focus on developing leadership skills. The Association is committed to develop leadership skills and soft skills among the professional fraternity and has been organising several workshops, trainings and evening sessions with this objective.
This program will be conducted by Alumnus of the University of Colombo and leadership coach Mahesh Jayasinghe, who is also a human resource consultant and a trainer. The program is held for the second time running due to the success of the first session that was conducted recently.
Mahesh Jayasinghe is a Certified Coach and is credited to be the first Sri Lankan to have achieved the PCC status from the International Coach Federation of USA. His programs are infused with energy and embedded with practical scenarios that he brings forth from his wide experience in different industries.
The workshop will cover the salient aspects of leadership. Says Mahesh Jayasinghe: “I believe that leadership is a skill that can be taught and developed at different levels. It’s not merely about gathering knowledge but a practical skill that can be developed. Participants of the program will be able to identify their strengths and weaknesses and develop their unique leadership styles”.
The program will cover a wide array of leadership fundamentals such as team building and working in teams, effective delegation and motivation. Emotional intelligence and demonstrating the key components such as the importance of self-awareness, self-management, social awareness and relationship management is another area which would be dealt with in detail.
“As a leader, is it is important to understand the dynamics of motivation. The motivation parameters of your subordinates, peers, service providers, superiors and customers need to be identified beyond the transaction level. By identifying deeper motivation levels and what really drives individuals within your circle you could influence and lead your team towards achieving objectives”.
Another focus area within the program will be team building and development. Participants will be able to enhance their team building skills through experiential tools introduced by the trainer.
The workshop is scheduled to be held on 25 August 2016 at the Galadari Hotel. For registration, please call 077 3071587, 076 8223926 or email [email protected].
