LAHES, the education arm of the diversified business conglomerate LAUGFS Holdings, will be entering the early childhood development sector and plans to commence operations in August this year.   LAHES, at present, delivers academic, vocational and executive education services to the Sri Lankan public, mainly targeting the corporate sector. Having identified the space in the other end of the education spectrum, LAHES decided to enter the early childhood development sector. The services include Play Group, Montessori and Day Care facilities on weekdays from 7:30 a.m – 6 p.m. The superior facility, complete with carpeted floors, access controlled doors and air-conditioned rooms, is conveniently located at R.G. Senanayake Mawatha (former Gregory’s Road) in Colombo 7. The decision of LAHES to enter the early childhood development sector is two-fold; one is to extend a helping hand to parents, especially career women who are mothers, and the other is to provide a conducive environment to ensure physical and mental development of young children. Commenting on the new venture, LAHES Director/Chief Executive Officer Vindhya Weeratunga said, “There is a growing trend of women leaving their careers to become stay-at-home mothers as most often they have no other choice. We want to support these career women by offering our services not only to care for their children, but also to ensure that the children are instilled with solid Sri Lankan values and mannerisms from an early age as these are the fundamental years of a person’s life.” Parents have two plans to select from; the full day package and half-day package. The facility is open to children from 2 – 12 years of age and only a limited number of children will be enrolled to ensure quality and safety.
