Kelani Cables PLC, Sri Lanka’s number one electrical cable manufacturer, initiated another ground-breaking project under its CSR initiatives focusing on the technical officers attached to the Government sector of the country.
The first program of this initiative took place in Hambantota under the patronage of District Engineer of Hambantota Eng. Sameera Indunil Wickramasinghe and W. A. Ariyasena, Chief Accountant of District Secretariat Office at the District Secretariat Auditorium Hambantota recently.
Fifty-two technical officers participated this workshop and a chartered engineer from Kelani Cables PLC conducted the workshop under the topics of type and occupancy of the building, selection of cables calculating the amount of power demand of the circuit, standard requirements and quality of the cables, environment in which the wiring must operate and safety guidelines of electrical wiring.
District Eng. Wickramasinghe coordinated this huge project on behalf of the technical officers in the Hambantota District and after the workshop speaking to media said: “With the acceleration of the economic development projects in the country, all the technical officers in the public sector are involved in many development projects including preparing BOQs for new projects as well. As government officials we see enhancing the knowledge on the latest innovations and technology in the industry of our technical officers to make their work productive and challenging with private sector. Selecting an area like Hambantota to start this project is an opportune requirement for our officials and hope to have more workshop of this nature to develop the knowledge of our officers in the future as well.”
“As a responsible corporate citizen of the country we conduct many CSR projects every year to educate electricians, electrical engineers and heads of constructions companies on the latest trends and innovations of the global industry. We have covered all possible workforce involved in this sector in the private sector and failed to notice the public sector during the past. At present government is involved in so many development projects and the technical officers play a key role in these projects. With this accelerated development projects government technical officers became a most important sector to share the knowledge we used to share with the private sector. We selected Hambantota to commence the workshops for technical officers in the public sector because there are many development projects are currently in progress and many are in the pipe-line too. Our plans are to continue these workshops around the country similar to the other CSR projects and any Government officer who wishes to have this program in his district can contact us to get more information,” said Channa Jayasinghe, Brand Development Manager of Kelani Cables PLC.
